To see the Wi-Fi password on your mobile device, the process depends on whether you're using Android or iPhone. Here’s how you can do it on both platforms:
For Android:
Most recent versions of Android (10 and above) allow you to view saved Wi-Fi passwords directly. Here are the steps:
Method 1: Viewing Wi-Fi Password on Android 10 and Above
- Go to Settings: Open the Settings app on your phone.
- Tap on "Network & Internet" (or something similar, depending on your phone brand).
- Select "Wi-Fi": Tap on Wi-Fi to see the list of networks.
- Select the Connected Network: Tap on the Wi-Fi network you're currently connected to or select the one saved on your phone.
- Share or QR Code Option: You'll see a "Share" button or QR code icon (depending on your phone model). You may need to authenticate with your fingerprint, pattern, or password.
- View Password: After authentication, the Wi-Fi password will be visible below the QR code.
Method 2: Using File Manager or Root Access
For Android devices running older versions or if the above method is not available:
- Root your device: You'll need to root your phone to access system files that store Wi-Fi passwords.
- Use a File Manager App: Use a file manager with root access (e.g., ES File Explorer).
- Navigate to the Wi-Fi Directory: Go to /data/misc/wifi and find the file named wpa_supplicant.conf.
- Open the File: Open this file using a text editor. The saved Wi-Fi passwords will be listed under the "psk" field for each network.
For iPhone (iOS):
iPhones do not allow you to view saved Wi-Fi passwords directly on the device. However, you can view the Wi-Fi password on iOS devices that are connected to iCloud Keychain.
Method 1: Using iCloud Keychain
- Make sure iCloud Keychain is enabled on your iPhone: Go to Settings > [Your Name] > iCloud > Keychainand turn on iCloud Keychain.
- On a Mac:
- Open the Keychain Access app.
- In the search bar, type the name of the Wi-Fi network.
- Double-click on the Wi-Fi network, then check the "Show Password" box. You may need to enter your Mac’s administrator password to reveal the password.
Method 2: Share Wi-Fi Passwords with Another iPhone (iOS 11 and Later)
If you're connected to the Wi-Fi network and need to share the password with another iPhone:
- Place both iPhones close to each other and ensure both are unlocked.
- On the second iPhone (the one not connected to the network), go to Wi-Fi settings and select the Wi-Fi network.
- A pop-up will appear on the connected iPhone asking to share the Wi-Fi password. Tap Share Password, and the other device will connect automatically.
Unfortunately, on iPhones, there is no direct way to see the Wi-Fi password unless you access it via Keychain on a Mac.
